It’s really easy to get confused using Google Ads when there are specific terms and acronyms that aren’t the most user friendly.

Here’s some pay-per-click (PPC) jargon that you should get to know if you’re interested in advertising on Google.

Google Ads Terms & Acronyms

Ad Spend: The amount of money your ads have cost.

All Conversions: The total number of conversions your business received, including Google-hosted conversions like store visits.

Average Cost-per-click (Avg. CPC): The average amount that Google charges you when someone clicks on your ad.

Automatic Billing Payments: Paying for ad spend is automatic on Google; this means Google will charge you for your account’s ad spend after a certain amount of money has been spent or after a set amount of days have passed—whatever comes first.

Clicks: The number of times your ad has been clicked on.

Click Through Rate (CTR): The percentage of people who clicked on your ad after seeing it.

Conversion: Any action that provides value to your business—calls, form submissions, etc.

Conversion Rate: The average number of conversions you get based on an ad’s clicks.

Competition: Google Ads is a marketing platform based around getting searchers to click on your ad when others are also trying to get searchers to click on their ad.
Markets, trends, costs and more are subject to fluctuation.

Customer ID (CID): A ten-digit number that’s assigned to your Google Ads account. It’s your account’s identification and can be found in the top right corner of your account (just look for the number formatted like this: XXX-XXX-XXXX).

Impressions: How many times your ad has been shown to anyone.

My Client Center (MCC): A Google Ads account that agencies or freelancers typically use that allows them to securely link to their clients’ Google Ads accounts for optimization and management.

Pay-per-click (PPC): a type of advertising where you are charged by the click (in this case, by Google).
